Curling Banquet 2015

Added to the site on April 20, 2015

Our curling season officially came to an end on Saturday April 18th with our closing banquet at St. Francis Harbour Church hall. A total of approximately 85 people attended which included 11 junior members and their parents, 9 Past Presidents, curling club members and their spouses, and friend’s of the club. A big thank-you goes out the ladies and men of the St. Francis Harbour Church who prepared and served us a great meal of roast beef and all the fixings. Also thanks go out to Ray Bates, our President, for the help in organizing this and also doing the MC job for the night. Ray acknowledged everyone who had helped to make this event a success and to thank all the volunteers of the club for a great season. Championship awards were handed out, Junior curlers received curling brooms from the Turning Point School and from Sceles Realty, a 25 year award was presented to Evelyne Jamieson, and a Past Presidents plaque was introduced to the curling membership (thank you Jim Muise) with 9 Past presidents who joined us for the night. See photo below with caption:

In 1963 a group of community-minded individuals had the great idea that Boylston and its surrounding region should be able to enjoy the sport of curling therefore they set about establishing a rink. To recognize the 29 individuals who have held the position of the Chedabucto Curling Club President over its 52-year history a plaque was recently purchased to display their names. That acquisition was made possible through the donations of Hope Wright, in memory of her husband Earl Wright (1967), and of Haliburton PharmaChoice / Guysborough Pharmacy (Terry Haliburton), in memory of Joseph Dort (1977). At the Past Presidents’ plaque’s presentation during the rink’s season closing dinner and awards ceremony nine of the Chedabucto Curling Club’s past presidents were in attendance. The past presidents available to receive the plaque were (front row left–right,) Angus MacIsaac (1973) and Miles MacDonald (1978). (back row, left-right) Wayne Sangster (1995), Gerry Jamieson (1987), Danny Hart (1998, 2000-2001), Shauna Brymer (1999), Donalda Mattie (2000-2003), Ralph Mattie (2004) and Blair Brymer (2005-2007) photo: Holly Nahrebecky

Season closing dinner’s happy hour and remaining payments….

Added to the site on April 17, 2015

Things are coming together very well for tomorrow’s season-closing curling rink dinner.  There will be a happy hour from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM with the dinner’s activities to start at 7:00 PM.

For those few — from our 84 attendees — who still owe for their dinner(s) please bring the exact change or a cheque and give it to Treasurer Holly. She will have the names of those to pay and will check your name(s) off the list.

See you tomorrow at the St. Francis Harbour Hall.

Season-closing dinner update…..

Added to the site on April 13, 2015

Our season-closing dinner has come together exceptionally well due to the support of many.  I am pleased to state that 84 dinners have been ordered for our April 18th, 7:00 PM dinner at the St. Francis Harbour Hall, Route 344.  (We are  grateful that the St. Francis Harbour Ladies are hosting our gathering since our rink only has a legal capacity of 67 — and that is before we would have had to move in tables and chairs.)

Our evening will be less formal that last year’s 50th anniversary celebration for Chedabucto CC, but equally as enjoyable.  Saturday — unlike all that happened at our rink during this past season — is a time for us not to be thinking of who is doing the ice; who is working the bar; who is bringing and/or preparing the food; who is overseeing the kitchen; who is in charge of cleaning, and the many other duties required for our rink-based events.

Saturday is going to be a social gathering where we can relax with good food, fellowship and deserved presentations. We will be presenting our Past Presidents Plaque to recognize and to honour those who have held the rink’s president’s position over its half-century of providing recreation and community activities for our region.  The plaque has been paid for through the generosity of Hope Wright (in memory of Earl Wright, Chedabucto CC President 1968) and Haliburton PharmaChoice/Guysborough Pharmacy (in memory of Joseph Dort, Chedabucto CC President 1977).

Eight Junior curlers will each be presented with a curling broom from Sceles Realty (4) and Turning Point Curling School (4).  Our leagues’ winning teams will also be receiving their due recognitions on Saturday evening.

The 84 to attend our gathering will include 11 Juniors, 8 past presidents, 25 guests (former members, Junior’s family members, Chedabucto CC supporters) and the balance will be our current members.

All of this will happen as we gather to enjoy a delicious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings plus mouth-watering carrot cake dessert (along with bar service).

Since we have already submitted the dinners’ numbers for the ladies to prepare for Saturday we cannot add to our list.  However, if you had wanted to attend and did not get your name on our list, notify me and I’ll put your name on a waiting list in case a seat becomes available — but please realize that is will be a waiting list and not a guaranteed dinner spot.

My advance thank you to all who are enabling Saturday’s dinner to happen and to the many who make the Chedabucto Curling Club such a worthwhile and vibrant community organization.

Cheers 🙂
