Stick Curling League??

After two successful seasons of “Drop-In Stick Curling”, we’re looking at starting a Stick Curling League.

This would be scheduled weekly games in the 2-person, 6 ends, 6 rocks format using the Official Stick Curling rules. The games are short – about one hour. It’s a quick moving game and lots of fun. You get to learn about strategy and also throw lots of stones. There is no sweeping allowed between the hog lines.

If you’ve never heard of 2-person Stick Curling, there is lots of information on the Canadian Stick Curling Association website: https://canadianstickcurling.ca/   Or check out their brochure: https://canadianstickcurling.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/CSCA-Brochure-Final-V7.pdf

So first we have to see if we have enough interest! Anyone who may be interested in joining, please contact me (Ruth). Then we can figure out the details of when? how often? set teams or mix up weekly? full season or two or three sessions of 5-6 weeks? Lots of choices – help create the league you want to be part of.

For you non-stick curlers, perhaps you know someone who might be interested – a former curler who gave up the sport because they couldn’t play ‘like they used to’, or a potential new curler who would fit right in to stick curling.

I’m hoping to hear from you soon. Ice will be in and leagues starting up in early November.

Ruth

Registration for curling – Tuesday October 15 – 6:30 to 8:30

It is that time of the year again – a bit of a chill in the air, leaves changing colour. It must mean curling will soon be starting. Hurray!!

We expect the ice to be in and leagues starting play November 4th and 5th.- but I’ll leave it to those in charge of the ice making and leagues to provide the details. When they put out the call for helpers, please don’t be shy. The old adage ‘many hands make light work” applies here and every bit helps.

On the administration side, your participation and cooperation also make the start of the season go much smoother. Our league managers have been making calls to get an idea of numbers so they’ll be ready with teams and draws to start right away in November. Attached are the Adult Registration Form and the Waiver which we need completed every year. We’re hoping to see lots of folks on Tuesday for registration in person. If you can’t print out the attachments, we will have plenty of copies on hand at the club. Payment is by e-transfer, cheque, or cash (exact change please). (New fibre-optic connection will make those e-transfers from the club much easier.)

In order to be included in the leagues, your registration form, waiver, and membership fees need to be received before getting on the ice. If you can’t make it on Tuesday, an email copy of the completed form and e-transfer of payment will work.

One of the parts of the registration form that we want to highlight this year is the Volunteer Commitment choice. The success of the club – good ice, fun leagues, well-run bonspiels, a clean club house, social events, sponsorship recruitment – all depends on volunteers. There are no paid staff so everything that gets done, however big or small, is thanks to our club members. Everyone can help with something and we need help from all members – so please indicate your preference on the form.

Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
