Memorial Closing bonspiel results…

Our curling season has come to an end with our last bonspiel of the season. This event is held to help remember all the former curlers in our community that made this club what it is today. So six teams took to the ice on Friday night and by Sat night we had a winner. With a perfect 3-0 record and 125pts in the round robin, Team Landry, with  Maurice Landry winning his 1st club championship as a skip, took home the trophy. Congrats to his team of mate Fred Sullivan, second Leona Purcell and lead Colin Purcell. In 2nd place was Team Dobson with a 2-1 record and 114pts. In 3rd was Team O’Connor, who also had a 2-1 record, but with 100pts. It was decided that with Easter approaching that we should have a fun Turkey shoot on Saturday between draws. A 15lb butterball was placed on the ice and 32 curlers threw rocks at it and the closest one to the turkey would win the beast. Congrats go out to Paula Dobson who ended up the closest. A huge thank you goes out to the kitchen crew led by Holly Pyle and to our bar crew led by Mary K. Connolly with help from Maurice and Holly. We would also like to thank all the members who donated food to help feed the curlers throughout the day on Saturday and our ice crew of Phil & George and any one else that helped them out. Finally thanks go out to our bonspiel committee of Phil, Blair, Paul and Mary who helped organize this final spiel of the season. In the fall we will be celebrating our 60th season of curling here at the club. Hurry hard until next season.
