Our annual Memorial Closing Bonspiel (formerly the Junior Sceles Memorial Bonspiel) was held this past weekend, April 4th and 5th. The club was able to attract 12 teams this year for the season ending bonspiel that is played in memory of all of our past members no longer with us. Our bonspiel committee was able to find quite a list of sponsors (see poster ad). A huge thank you goes out to all the sponsors (29) who helped out with cash and/or prizes for the event. Our biggest supporter this year was Sceles Realty’s Giselle Sceles whose father was Junior Sceles. Events like this cannot happen with out the support of our sponsors and volunteers. As for volunteers’ thanks go out to the kitchen committee led by Nancy O’Regan who served up some great meals on Sat, our ice prep crew, bar staff and all who donated food for the event. Now as for the bonspiel after the 3-game round robin the top four teams made it to the playoff game draw. Team Long had 212 pts and a 3-0 record for 1st place, Team Avery had 199 pts and a 3-0 record for 2nd place, Team Brymer had 162 pts and a 2-1 record for 3rd place, and Team Dort had 147 pts and a 2-1 record for 4th place. It should be noted that Team Sullivan and Team Dobson were one pt behind Team Dort so it was close. In the 1 vs 2 playoff game Team Long won the trophy and $600 beating Team Avery 8-4. Team Avery took home $400. In the 3 vs 4 game Team Brymer won $200 and beat Team Dort in a very close game. Team Dort took home $100. It was tied after 8 ends and the winner was determined by a draw to the button. The winner was Team Brymer. So, another successful curling season has come to an end.
