Memorial Closing Bonspiel results are in…

Our annual Memorial Closing Bonspiel was held this weekend. We had 6 teams registered and each team played 3 games each. Five of the six teams were picked by designated skips. The bonspiel committee had a request from the Junior Girls team (Team Grady) to end the season as a team. Our Memorial spiel is held each year in memory of past members who have passed away, most recently Gerald Fitzgerald. In the round robin games Team Long ended up winning all three games and had the most points at the end of the day Sat. Team Brymer won 2 and tied 1 to end up in 2nd place. the 3rd place team with 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 tie was Team O’Regan. Congrats to Team Long with skip Paul Long, mate Evelyne Jamieson, 2nd Aidan Halloran, and lead Bill Walters. Thanks go out to the bonspiel committee for getting this final bonspiel together, to Holly for running the kitchen for lunch, Mary for taking care of the bar, the ice prep team for getting ice ready for each draw and to all curlers and spectators who played and watched this weekend.

One thing we did this weekend was award the three prizes that we had originally were raffling off to help the ladies team get to the Canada Games last fall. When Covid hit that of course cancelled but we still had the bucket of tickets in the bar so it was decided to sell more tickets this weekend ($61 worth) and draw the winners at the conclusion of the spiel. The 3rd prize of a club T-shirt was won by Junior curler Brooklyn Jordan, the 2nd prize of a Grand Slam of Curling jacket signed by Team Jacobs from the slam in Port Hawkesbury was won by Brooklyn Jordan, and finally the 1st prize of a curling broom was won by member Lois MacDonald. Thanks to Gavin Dort who helped draw the winning names. Congrats to all.

So despite having to deal with Covid protocols at the club we were able to get in all of our five bonspiels. The money generated by these spiels in the form of registration fees, bar sales, and lunch sales help the club keep the club dues at a low price. Thank you to all who participated and helped out. The club will be shutting down on Fri night April 23rd after the Mixed Doubles Final.  Here are some pics from the winning teams and raffle winners:
