Upcoming events at the club…

It is almost time to get back on the ice. Flooding is coming along well. The painting of the ice is happening this Saturday at 2pm. Anyone who wants to see how it is done is welcome to come on out. Other events happening this month and next are as follows:

Sat. Oct. 27th from 1pm-3pm is our Open House;

Mon. Oct. 29th from 7-8:30pm is Registration night;

Sat. Nov. 3rd is clinic day with 2 clinics happening. One is the Beginner’s Clinic from 9am until noon. Still lots of space left. The other is the Intermediate clinic from 1pm until 4pm. One spot is left for that one. Cost is $40 plus tax for members and $50 plus tax for non-members;

Mon. Nov. 5th is first day of the Day league;

Tues Nov. 6th is first night of the Night League;

Fri Nov. 30th is our annual Turkey Shoot; poster to follow;

We have two proposed dates in mind. One is the annual Cecil Boyd series of games vs the Canso CC. We are going to try the Dec 1st and 2nd weekend. Dec 1st would be in Canso and Dec 2nd back at our club. If anyone is interested in this series of games please let me know ASAP. We need at least 4 – 6 teams.

Another event would be on Dec 7th and 8th. It would be a bonspiel to open up the year. We could call it the Fall Classic. All games would be 6 ends. Poster and sign-up sheet will be up at the rink soon.

$5.00 dues increase and curling play days….

At the October 11th Semi-AGM, the membership attending discussed and approved a flat $5.00 (total) dues increase to all categories of memberships.

The days to curl were approved as follows, with the leagues’ coordinators now able to draft play schedules:

Day Leagues will curl on Mondays and Wednesdays (a change from last year).

Night Leagues will remain Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The league(s) registration will be October 29 (7:00 PM – 8:30 PM) with the emergency response/registrations sheets available for completion at that time. Treasurer Holly will be present on the 29th to issue dues-paid receipts.

With the extensive use of electronic communications, changes from land phones to strictly cell phones and new email services by members, the emergency response/registrations sheets are a definite necessity. All past-season sheets are destroyed with the commencement of each new curling season.

Strait Supplies / Stright MacKay Cashspiel – Nov. 23 – 25th….

The Strait Area Community Curling Club is pleased to advise that we will once again be hosting our Open Cashspiel on the weekend of Nov. 23^rd – 25^th. We are very thankful to Strait Supplies and Stright MacKay who have agreed to return as the event title sponsors, which will once again allow us to offer a guarantee of $1,000.00 to the “A” Winners.

As most of you have seen in the past, our Cashspiel combines good curling with good ice, good food, and a good time. We really hope to see you back again this year. Will can take a maximum of 16 team and will take entries on a first come first serve basis. All we need is an email from you to reserve your spot, and we will collect your entry fee before your first draw.

Our Semi-AGM is this Thursday, October 11, in the Club at 6:30 PM at which meeting membership will approve the 2018/2019 dues and deal with other items relating to the 2018/2019 curling season.

Attached is the the agenda for Thursday’s general meeting.
