Cake cutting yesterday’s Open House / Ice Shed 2019…

We had a wonderful time yesterday at the Chedabucto Curling Club’s open house to celebrate the completion of the recent renovation/expansion. On behalf of all Chedabucto CC members I extend my most sincere thank you to the 82 contributors who donated to our ambitious construction undertaking. Thank you also to those who were able to attend yesterday’s celebration (and to the food donors and volunteers who enabled it to happen).

As included within the membership’s construction approval, but not as a part the construction at this time due to financial restraints, the curling rink’s entire ice shed still needs to be insulated on the exterior and have vinyl siding added. Presently the ice shed’s in-wall insulation is very inadequate and its exterior wall panels are in need of being properly covered with vinyl. The Chedabucto CC is going to “catch its collective breaths”, enjoy what it has achieved and in January 2019 commence actively working to get its insulation and siding completed within 2019. When that construction is complete, an appropriate donors’ acknowledgement plaque will be added to our in-house historical-archives wall.

In the attached photo from yesterday: Standing in front of the donors’ wall mural (constructed by Waterline Graphix, Whitehead), at the cake cutting (created by Days Gone By Bakery) are (left-right) yours truly, Marilyn Sceles (wife of late Ted Sceles), representing all donors; Angie Travares, MODG Recreation Department, representing the MODG and its substantial financial contribution; Maurice Landry, Chair of the Expansion/Renovation Committee; and Rodger Cuzner, M.P., Cape Breton – Canso.

Best regards,

Ray

Established in 1963, the Chedabucto Curling Club celebrated its
modernization and expansion with an open house at its Boylston facility
on October 27. Even though they no longer curl, two of its charter
members were in attendance as they continue to support and participate
in the curling club’s activities. Marie MacMaster (left) and Goldie

The Open House cake, crafted by the Days Gone By Bakery, was enjoyed by all in
attendance at the Chedabucto CC celebration.

Needs for our Public Open House on Saturday…

With the Club’s Official Expansion/Renovation Open House this Saturday, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, we want to make a good impression to our  donors, general public and members. Please support the Club’s public invitation with “something-for-a-snack” that enable our visitors to appreciate the generosity of the Chedabucto Curling Club and our welcoming hospitality.

Kay Chisholm is overseeing what we make available for all in attendance on Saturday. If you can please provide sandwiches, sweets, munchies or nibbles,  inform Kay (902.533.3323 or joe.kay.chisholm@gmail.com ) what you can bring so she can have things arranged. We do not know the numbers attending therefore we are planning for a right-some-real-good turnout. 🙂

Hopefully I will see you on Saturday at our historical celebratory gathering.

Cheers,

Ray

Curling registration night and attached Emergency Response sheet…

Next Monday, 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM, Oct 29, is the adult registration for the ensuing day league and night league curling season. Attached is the Emergency Response Form for all members to complete for registration. The slightly increased dues’ amounts are indicated on the forms.

Treasurer Holly plans to be in attendance for the issuing of dues receipts on Monday. If that time is not possible for you to attend, you may mail your cheque and Emergency Response form to Holly Nahrebecky, Treasurer, Chedabucto CC, PO Box 107, Boylston B0H 1G0.

As per our by-laws, members are to pay at least one half of dues at registration time — but we appreciate full payments. The bills are arriving for the ensuing season thus your prompt payment will be sincerely welcomed. Today the ice paint bill ($419.99) and the insurance bill ($6,600.00) arrived.

Thank you for your understanding. I shall look forward to seeing you at registration or on the ice.

Good curling,

Ray

Our ice is almost ready to curl on…

Our ice is almost ready to curl on. Flooding started on Oct. 9th and the ice got painted on Sat. Oct. 20th. Rings and lines went in the next day. Now it is time for lots of sprays and then back to flooding. Should be ready for the Open House on Oct. 27th. Lots of thanks go out to our crew of helpers: Jim Muise, George Luddington, Robert Billard, Maurice Landry, Brian MacDonald, Blair Brymer, Steve Myette, Basil Mattie, Paul Long, and Phil O’Regan.

Chedabucto junior curlers need help….

The Chedabucto Curling Club has a problem: there is no one to oversee the junior curling program (ages 10 years upward). I have several members who have indicated they would be willing to assist the program; however, they are reluctant to be the person in charge.

If you know of a curler, aged 21 years or older, who would be willing to engage in the required RCMP check, please have that person contact me so as to enable us to have discussion about the actual coaching requirements, possible assistance available and tentative program days/times.

The Juniors are a vital and established component of the Chedabucto Curling Club and must be saved. Working with those youngsters to assist them to enjoy curling is very rewarding and provides much satisfaction for all involved.

Only the adult registration is next Monday, Oct 29. I don’t intend to have a juniors registration until we have a/or coach(es) in place.

Please help to find someone to coach the Juniors 10 years and older.
