$1.00 for not crossing the far hog line…..

We are having some laughs with the volunteer penalty (donation) of $1.00 for the shooter not getting his/her rock across the far hog line — and we are also generating some extra revenue for the rink. As you often hear me state, dues alone ($10,805)  do not cover the necessary expenses (approx. $29,000) for the yearly operation of the rink.

Today I deposited $49.05 (Hog dollars) into the rink’s bank account with a $2.00 float remaining in the “Hog” container. Where that nickel originated is a mystery to me.

Thank you to all who are light on your weight and are willingly tossing in your dollar(s) for the enjoyment of others. 🙂

Hot Shots and “Thank you”…..

This past Wednesday both Donalda and I were away but we had two great volunteers to oversee and instruct the Juniors. Phil O’Regan and Jim Muise pitched in to give the youngsters a good session. Thank you Phil and Jim.

At the conclusion of yesterday’s session there was the usual “hot shoot” draw to the button for a chocolate bar reward for the closest boy’s and girl’s rock to the pin. The winners of the bars was Vanessa Dort (31.75″) and Ryan Casey (52″). Congratulations to Vanessa and Ryan.

Next Wednesday’s session should be back to normal with school exams concluded and Donalda back from the Canadian Juniors Championship in Ontario.

The Davies/MacKenzie bonspiel in Canso…

A team from our club led by George Luddington, with Wayne Hyam, Mabel Luddington-Hyam, and Kenny O’Leary came in 3rd place out of 12 teams this past weekend at the Davies/MacKenzie bonspiel in Canso…. Congrats to George and the rest of his team.

Next Chedabucto CC 50/50 draw’s date….

With the rink’s last 50/50 draw being after several weeks of selling and also being held at the Edgar Sceles Memorial, we had one of our largest prizes yet at $350.00.

With the intention to have another larger prize — maybe greater than $400.00 — the decision has been made to have the next 50/50 draw at the Ladies Valentines Funspiel on February 13. Tickets will be available throughout those 3 weeks at their usual locations and via Chedabucto CC members both juniors and adults. (With the juniors receiving chances to win pizzas for selling tickets it would be nice to support the youngsters if possible.)

As always, your support is extremely important to the 50/50 draws as a major fund raiser.  In January we paid a power bill of $5000 and paid a bank bill towards the dehumidifier of $5000.00 plus there was the lighting and insulation’s cost. Dues alone do not finance the rink.

If you wish to purchase or to sell tickets: contact a club member, purchase them from a Junior curler, come to the curling rink, or buy tickets at Cutting Loose Hair Design & Tanning, Guysborough Pharmacy, Cook’s Gas Bar & Robin’s, Chedabucto Home Hardware, Guysborough Discount & Gifts, or at Days Gone By Bakery & Restaurant. CAS sincerely thanks the before-mentioned businesses for their continued support. (The businesses’ sold-tickets are collected on Saturdays.)

CAS usually draws its winning 50/50 ticket on Saturdays but — with the intention to have richer prizes — will occasionally be doing the selection after a couple or several weeks of selling. Our rink’s website has updates on draws and the names of our 50/50 winners: http://www.chedabuctocc.ca/50_50-draw-2015_16

Thank you for whatever level of support you are able to provide.
