Juniors coach needed for ages 10 upward / Little Rockers update….

With Teagan Lombardo no longer available for coaching the regular juniors due to she having moved to Antigonish, the Chedabucto Curling Club needs some folks to step forward to work with the regular juniors coaching program. (Ms. Mills will continue to work with the existing juniors girls’ team.)

With weekend events at the curling rink and elsewhere, it is not our first choice to have the juniors coaching during Friday night or Saturdays, but Sundays might be workable. After school or at night could also be considered but not when the adult night league curls.

The days of adult curling are now Mondays and Thursdays — with coaching time available after one day game since the Little Rockers will follow one of the adults’ day games. The adult night curling were Tuesdays and Thursdays last season; this winter’s days will be firmed at the Semi-AGM on October 11, as will this season’s dues.

The hope is for several curlers to volunteer to coach thereby enabling the coaching to be shared. The preferred age(s) of the coach(es)  is (are) 21 years or older. The coach(es) must have a current RCMP criminal record check to be presented to the curling club’s executive.

Should you, or someone you believe to be capable, be willing to assist with the juniors please let me know. I will be pleased to present your name to the executive for their consideration. If you have questions, give me a call (902.533.2528).

The Chedabucto CC is hoping to start a little rockers program (ages 6 years to 9 or 10 years) in January with Charla Cosgrove having volunteered to oversee that group of children. More details will be forthcoming after arrangements are fine-tuned.

The Chedabucto CC needs your assistance to ensure that our well-established junior league continues to exist and to enable more children to become involved in the wonderful sport of curling.

Best regards,

Ray

Introducing Hit Draw Tap…..

Good afternoon everyone,

I am excited to announce that for the upcoming season, we will be introducing a brand new program called Hit Draw Tap across Nova Scotia. Hit Draw Tap (HDT) is a youth skills competition where kids age 6-13 compete as individuals. HDT will group kids into three different age categories (6-8, 9-10 & 11-13), and perform three different shots – a “Hit,” a “Draw” and a “Tap.” Participants will have the opportunity to travel to Sydney to compete in the Tim Hortons Provincial HDT Championship which will take place on the ice in Centre 200 between the semi final and championship game of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in February.

Attached is a guide explaining all the details about HDT. If you have any questions or would like to register your club, please do not hesitate to contact me, Andrew Paris, at

Day League Sign-up…

The curling season will soon be starting up at the Chedabucto Curling Club in Boylston and we are looking for people who may be interested in curling on Monday and Thursday in the Day League. Those people who have knee and hip problems can also participate as there are a number of curlers using the stick. If you are interested let me know and I will get back in touch with you.

Night League sign-up time….

It is getting close to curling season again. Ice is going to be starting on Oct. 9th with the 1st flood of the sand. We hope to have it ready to go on by Oct. 27th for the Open House. I need to know from all of you if you are coming back for another season of Night Curling (Day curling is handled by Gerry, Neil and Don). If so I need to know which positions (1st, 2nd and 3rd choices). Also, if by chance, you can only curl on a certain night whether it be Tues or Thurs? Depending on the amount of teams we have this year we may consider a Wed night draw. On paper right now, based on last years teams, I have enough for 8 full teams (including some Juniors) with 2 additional players plus 6-8 spares. The season we hope will start on Tues Nov. 6th at 7pm. Please reply to this email or call me at 902-533-2539 at home or 902-863-8922 (cell).

PS If you know of anyone new (or old) that wants to curl let me know.

Curling rink’s semi-AGM October 11…

The curling rink’s semi-AGM will be at the Club on October 11 @ 6:30 PM. The Oct 11 meeting is when dues are set for the ensuing curling season. The executive will be meeting in late September and then the tentative agenda for the semi will be forthcoming. I have started making the agenda which already includes several suggestions from members but should have general membership input.
