On Sunday Jan. 26th we held a fundraiser concert at the Chedabucto Performance Centre to help raise money for our new ice scraper. About 100 or so people showed up which was great. We held a 50/50 draw and one of the entertainers from the Long family won the winning prize of $204. Thanks to Miles and his crew at the theater for helping get this going and of course to Neil DeCoff for arranging the entertainers. Thank you also to Ray for MCing, Maurice and Holly for the 50/50 and to Betty and Kay for doing the door. Chris West and Phil took pictures. Finally a thank you to Councillors Neil DeCoff and Miles MacDonald for their contributions from the MODG Councillors’ District Based Grant totaling $500 with a balance for the Chedabucto Curling Club to raise of $13,078.98. Here are some pics from Phil and Chris.

Results are in from the Edgar Sceles Memorial bonspiel…
Results are in from the Edgar Sceles Memorial bonspiel. Repeating as champion again this year is Team Luddington. George tells me he has won this 3 out of the past 4 years along with a few others. On George’s team this year was mate Gary Neufeld, second Heather Manuel, and newcomer to the rink lead Stevie Jordan. George’s team was the only team undefeated out of 10 teams. I’d like to thank all who showed up to play this year. It’s hard enough trying to get 6-8 teams to compete but this year we had 10. In second place by a mere 2pts over Team Long was Team Brymer with Blair as Skip along with Emily Perry as mate, Charla Cosgrove as second, and lead Fred Sullivan. Third place went to Team Long with skip Paul Long, sister and mate Beryl Hadley, Maurice Landry as second, and lead Maureen Landry. I believe there were 5 teams at 2-1 from 2nd place down to 6th place. My big comment this year was most draws started and ended on time.
We held our 50/50 draw also this past weekend. The winning ticket was drawn by curling guest from Lantz. NS Scott Hirtle. The winning ticket was Evelyne Jamieson who competed at this bonspiel. Prize amount was $194.00.
I’d like to thank my Bonspiel committee members, Paul, Maurice and Mary for helping me get this organized. Even though we do these all the time it is always a challenge for every spiel. A big thank you goes out to our prize table sponsors. The prize for winning were the Memorial pins from the Sceles Family who donate these Stirling Silver pins every year for as long as I have known in honour of Edgar Sceles who was one of the founding members of our club plus of course the Edgar Sceles trophy (Thank you Ray for picking these up). For 2nd place was a big donation from Thrill Hill Farms consisting of a 5lb chicken, a 5lb bag of potatoes, a 1lb package of ground beef, and a toque for each member of the team. It is appropriate that Fred Sullivan was on this team. It is his daughter Melissa and her husband that own the farm. The MODG provided us with prizes (Thank you Neil DeCoff). Other prizes were a $60 gift certificate from Strait Car Care in Antigonish. Thank you Maurice for providing that. Other prizes were purchased by the club via Holly and Paul. Other thanks go out to Maurice for running the bar along with Chris and Jim and the token few that stepped in when needed. To Kay Chisholm and Holly Nahrebecky for getting the kitchen and food all organized and for the countless number of members who helped them out. And finally to George Luddington who got us some great ice for the spiel. Many members helped out George is this job, George Nahrebecky, Paul Long, myself, Gary Neufeld, Maurice, and I am sure there were more.
Below are the photos from the spiel taken by me. The ones at the bottom are from Chris West. More will be added if I get ant from Maurice Landry.
