Edgar Sceles Memorial will be 6 enders and it needs you…..

Good evening Members and Supporters:

We will all agree that the Chedabucto curling rink began as a location for recreational curling and socialization. To honour those who enabled us to have such a great facility we are hosting the Edgar Sceles Memorial bonspiel next weekend, January 15 & 16.  The decision has been made to have 6-end games. Edgar Sceles was one of the founders of our rink and contributed a great deal to its existence. To honour Edgar his family donates sterling silver pins to each of the first-place team’s members and a trophy is available for that team’s name to be engraved and then proudly displayed within Chedabucto’s trophy case. As the organizers move into high gear to prepare the bonspiel for your recreational curling enjoyment we need curlers to sign up and/or put together teams for the 6-ends long matchesThere is a sign-up sheet on the rink’s ice 1 door for you to enter your name(s).  If you prefer contact Phil O’Regan or email back to me and I’ll be pleased to pass on your name. We need names as early as possible into this week. Historically Thursday seems to be the day for curlers to decide but earlier makes things much easier to organize.   Things that must be done: preparing the ice, cleaning the rink’s washrooms, kitchen and lounge, recruiting workers, buying food, cooking munchies, stocking the bar, planning the draws, gathering prizes, fetching the pins and having 50/50 tickets ready for the January 16 draw. All are welcome to participate in our recreational matches. The only requirement is to have players who are seeking a fun time with good people.

$1.00 volunteered for rocks not reaching far hog line….

As a fun thing, and being done on a volunteer basis, the $1.00 self-imposed penalty for the shooter not getting the rock across the far end hog line has thus far earned $15.00 for the rink’s general revenue.  (Thank you to the member who suggested and to the executive for approving the idea of such a fun penalty.)

In addition to the extra coins for the rink, we have already had many smiles (and extra encouragements) because of rocks not making it or them needing to be swept really hard to get them across the far hog line.

For a public acknowledgement, the Bates household has already put $3.00 into the hog dish. 🙂

Cheers,

Ray

Reminder of the Edgar Sceles Memorial next weekend…

To all members

As of Thursday morning we had only three members signed up for the Edgar Sceles Memorial bonspiel. These bonspiels are part of the club’s fundraising efforts so the more the better. I know it is the same every year that members wait until the final week to decide but for us who are trying to organize the event it is hard to know what food to buy, who to call-on for volunteering etc… if we do not know the amount of teams entered. Last year we had 6 teams entered. We need at least 6 to make a go of it otherwise it is not worth it.

Junior Curler Hot Shots are….

Each Wednesday at the Juniors’ curling we have the boys and girls do a draw to the button for a chocolate bar.

Yesterday the two hot shots were Jonah Worth (21 inches from the pin) and Vanessa Dort (38 inches). Each youngster then had their choice of a chocolate bar from the rink’s canteen.

Congratulations to Jonah and Vanessa. 🙂
