I’ll be putting in a curling order very soon to the Curling Store in Dartmouth. If you need anything like grippers, broom heads etc… let me know ASAP. Last day to order is Nov. 20th. New this year is the pricing. We are going back to the old pricing. The store gives a discount price to the clubs in NS. This was for the clubs. Members would pay the full price. It was decided to change back and give the members the List price. I will attach the price list. Note that you would pay the ‘List’ price and not the ‘MSRP’ price. In saying this you cannot get that price if you go to the store and buy something. You have to order through the club to get that price.
Our 2nd featured sponsors of the week for Nov. 11-17/2024 are MacLeod Lorway (Guysborough), G.O.A.L.S., and Mulgrave Machine Works.

Hi all! We have 12 players for our first session of the new Stick Curling League. Thanks to everyone for their interest and support!
We have a variety of levels of curlers in our group. There are some who have been using the delivery stick for years, some who have never used it but may see it in their future; some who play skip position most of the time and are used to calling the games, others who have never skipped a game and are a bit nervous about it; a few who had never heard of the 2-person stick curling game, and others who are very familiar with the rules and strategy.
With the round robin format, we will be playing with a different teammate every game so there are going to be some interesting match ups for sure. What we found worked best in our “drop in” games last year is, when possible, to have a more experienced skip play on the same end of the ice as a less experienced one – and help out with the calls and strategy.
Draw schedule: 2 games each week – 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm
I’ve put together the draw schedule starting tomorrow (Nov. 13) until Dec 18. The original plan was to go until Dec 11, but I’ve added the extra week in case there is interest.
With 12 players on the list, and only 2 sheets of ice (so 8 players each draw), there are 4 byes on each game, and 2 players will be playing both games. The numbers in the Bye and Play 2 games columns refer to the numbers on the players list. (Hopefully that is obvious, but I don’t make assumptions 😉
Spares:
If you cannot play any of your assigned games, you are responsible for getting a replacement, otherwise, there will be no game – can’t play with 1 person team.
If it is one of the days you are to be playing both games, then you’ll need to get 2 spares (again obvious, I hope).
Learn to Curl:
I’ll be at the club for late draw in the Day League tomorrow and staying around for Stick Curling. Anyone who is interested in coming early (2:00 onward) to get some pointers/practice with stick delivery is welcome to join me. I’ll gladly share what I know but will also have my laptop to show a couple of YouTube videos that might help more than my attempts at explanation.
Anyone who hasn’t played the 2-person game, please show up a few minutes early so we can go over the basic rules of the game before we get on the ice.
After two successful seasons of “Drop-In Stick Curling”, we’re starting a Stick Curling League and looking for a few more players. We’ll be using a round-robin format – so mixing up teams each game. Each games is about 1 hour long, so we can play 2 draws each week.
We’ll be playing games in the 2-person, 6 ends, 6 rocks format using the Official Stick Curling rules. It’s a quick moving game and lots of fun. You get to learn about strategy and also throw lots of stones. There is no sweeping allowed between the hog lines.
Never heard of 2-person Stick Curling? There is lots of information on the Canadian Stick Curling Association website: https://canadianstickcurling.ca/
And if you want to learn more about stick curling, the game, the equipment, strategy and more, here’s a very comprehensive informative video: Basic Stick Curling Skills
If you’ve never used the delivery stick, but are interested in trying it out, we can arrange a “learn to stick curl” session. We’d love to share our knowledge and provide basic instruction.
If you’d like to sign up for this 5 week session, please let me know by Sunday so I can get the schedule set up. It’s going to be fun!!
Ruth
P.S. – We’re planning on another 2 sessions of 5-6 weeks in the new year. So if you can’t join us now, maybe then.
