Ice update at the club….

To all

The ice is almost ready to curl on. We put our last flood on today and tomorrow we scrape and pebble the ice several times to get it curl-ready for Friday. Most skips and the executive have keys to the club. For those who do not and want to come and throw some rocks especially the new ones the club will be available Fri night from 6:30 until 9pm, Sat from 11 until 3pm and Sunday from 11 until 3pm. Dress warm and if you do not have curling shoes bring a pair of clean sneakers. Since this is the beginning of the season the ice will be slippery than normal. Just be careful stopping onto the ice. I am looking for volunteers that have keys to be available at these times. I can do Sat but not Fri or Sun. Any other questions just let me know.

Also the Night League will be starting on Tues Nov 5th. A skip will be in touch with you by Monday at the latest. Email me or call 902-863-8922 if you have not heard by then. We are currently at 9 full teams and three extra plus several spares. Still waiting to hear back from one more culrer to make a full 10 teams. As for the Day League they get started the next week. They have 7 full teams but no spares yet.

Ice update at the club:

Ice update at the club: As you can see from the pictures our ice is progressing nicely. Ice prep started on Oct. 10th with the raking of the base, then water was sprayed on to soak in the sand, plant was then turned on and the freezing was started. Several days and nights of spraying water to form ice then several days and nights of flooding the ice to cover all the sand. The ice was then scraped to remove any bumps. Painting happened on Thurs night, rings and lines got put in yesterday. We still have several days of spraying and then flooding to do. Our hope is to have the ice ready by Thurs or Friday of this week. Thank you to all who helped getting us to this spot: George Luddington, Maurice Landry, Gary Neufeld, Blair Brymer, Byron Grady, and Ralph Mattie.

Stick Curling League??

After two successful seasons of “Drop-In Stick Curling”, we’re looking at starting a Stick Curling League.

This would be scheduled weekly games in the 2-person, 6 ends, 6 rocks format using the Official Stick Curling rules. The games are short – about one hour. It’s a quick moving game and lots of fun. You get to learn about strategy and also throw lots of stones. There is no sweeping allowed between the hog lines.

If you’ve never heard of 2-person Stick Curling, there is lots of information on the Canadian Stick Curling Association website: https://canadianstickcurling.ca/   Or check out their brochure: https://canadianstickcurling.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/CSCA-Brochure-Final-V7.pdf

So first we have to see if we have enough interest! Anyone who may be interested in joining, please contact me (Ruth). Then we can figure out the details of when? how often? set teams or mix up weekly? full season or two or three sessions of 5-6 weeks? Lots of choices – help create the league you want to be part of.

For you non-stick curlers, perhaps you know someone who might be interested – a former curler who gave up the sport because they couldn’t play ‘like they used to’, or a potential new curler who would fit right in to stick curling.

I’m hoping to hear from you soon. Ice will be in and leagues starting up in early November.
