Being the president of the Chedabucto Curling Club and interacting with its members and other curlers — both younger and older — has been both a privilege and an honour. With encouragement, assistance and guidance from a large group of individuals as well as financial support from the MODG, the NS Government and generous individuals, we have accomplished a great deal over my nine years as the Club’s president. The executive members with whom I have worked over those memorable years have been THE BEST with their support, advice, and tireless energies resulting in the Chedabucto Curling Club being the marvelous facility and organization that we are very fortunate to have within our community. My best wishes and sincere gratitude to all.
Stay well — good curling.
Ray

At the September 25th Chedabucto Curling Club Community Activity Society (CAS) Executive meeting there was a peaceful transfer of the presidency. In October 2019, Ray Bates, President, (right) submitted his resignation from the executive to become effective at the club’s AGM in May 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the early closure of the curling club causing no AGM, Ray agreed to remain as its president until autumn. As per CAS by-laws, Vice President Maurice Landry (left) was installed by the CAS executive as the club’s president until duly elected by the CAS membership at the next AGM. President Landry is the 31th person to serve as the curling club’s president since the organization was formed in 1963.

On Saturday September 12th the Chedabucto Curling Club held their Annual Ducky Race. This event would normally occur during Come Home Week in conjunction with the Annual Chicken Barbecue which unfortunately had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. Although the water was shallow in the brook next to the club, we were able to release a record number (1,000) of bright yellow ducks and allowed them to voyage down the brook to the finish line. Prior to the race our master duck handler Kay Chisholm made sure that all the ducks were swimmers. An attempt was made to use a live Facebook video so all who could not make it to the event could watch it live. Unfortunately the live feed cutout just before the finish line. We also did a video of the event taken by Holly’s daughter Robin.
