Ducky Race results are in…

With Ray’s absence at his marathon in Barrington I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who attended our annual Ducky Race & Chicken BBQ yesterday at the club. Crowds were steady for most of the afternoon until we got rained and thunder clapped on just after the race. By all accounts it was another great fundraiser for our curling club. All but 5 chicken dinners were bought and most of the ducks sold. The stick draw had only a few prizes left. The winners of the Ducky Race were Joseph Atkins in 1st place with $500, 2nd place went to Anna Connolly with $200 and 3rd place was Winnie Steeger with $100. Thank you to Winnie for donating her money back to the club.

Many hands made this event truly successful… Thanks go out to Ray for getting things started with setup before he left, with Neil DeCoff, Danny Worth, Ira Corkum and myself getting the fencing and bricks all out and up. To BA Corkum and Mary E. A. Connolly for the Stick Draw setup and help from Marg and Mary K. Connolly on the day of. To Kay Chisholm and Paula Dobson for their kitchen and cooking help with potato help from Margaret Hadley. To Kay for her help with ducky tickets setup (and all of the other behind the scenes work) and Mable Luddington and Wayne Hyam for their help on the day of for organizing tickets coming in. To Holly Nahrebecky for her help in the bar, to Lois MacDonald for helping with the chicken dinner tickets, to our chicken dinner cookers: along with myself we had Brian MacDonald, Don Armstrong, Jim Muise, Chris West, and David O’Connor. Also thanks to Paul Connolly who came early to help get tables and chairs out. I’d like to thank Neil and Mary Theresa & Danny Rodgers for their musical contribution especially when the storm was getting close. With the duckies I’d like to thank Steve Myette, Peter Simpson, Mike Nicholson, and Jim Muise. Also like to thank the Rec students who came out to do face painting. A big thank you goes out to Mike Nicholson who oversaw all the event in Ray’s absence. Finally thanks to all who helped get things cleared away outside as the rain started coming down. Now I am sure I have missed a few names but as I said before  many hands make this event a truly successful. Now it time to take a rest before the curling season starts up again. See you all in October.
