Results are in from our closing Memorial Bonspiel…

Our Memorial closing bonspiel has come to an end. A FUN weekend of curling was had by all. It started on Wednesday night when the skips got together to draft their respective teams, a new system that we are trying this year. We did it also for the Skins cash spiel. Games started on Friday night with all teams playing an 8 end game. Neil DeCoff and Danny Rogers supplied us with some great music. On Saturday the games were all 6 end games. In the end all teams ended up winning at least one game and one team went undefeated. Team Brymer ended up on top with 112pts. Team Brymer with Shauna Brymer, Iris Stanley, Teagan Lombardo, and Charla Cosgrove took home the trophy. Congrats to their team. In second place with 94pts was Team DeCoff with Neil DeCoff, Phil O’Regan, Mary K. Connolly, and Sharmaine Shea. And finally in third place with 79pts was Team Armstrong with Don Armstrong, Ray Bates, Heather Manual, and Jim Muise. Lots of thanks go out to all who helped out to make this a fun season ending spiel. Our turkey for our turkey dinner was donated to us by fellow member Wilfred Myette, our kitchen help headed by Kay Chisholm with help from Nancy O’Regan, Sharmaine Shea, and Marg Halloran, bar staff headed by Holly Nahrebecky with help from Brian Farrell, ice maintenance headed by George Luddington with help from Phil O’Regan, Don Armstrong, Neil DeCoff, Brian MacDonald, Jim Muise, Kenny O’Leary, and Wilfred Myette. Thank you’s also to all who donated food, Ray Bates for his help in getting all the prizes from many including Martin Marietta, Central Supplies, Wal-Mart, Avery’s Independent, and Labatt’s. And thank you Ray for your season long drive to get us that extra money from the 50/50 draws and of course thanks to all who bought the 50/50 draw tickets. Finally to Phil for getting this spiel together with help from Shauna Brymer. Here are some pics from the spiel:

Attendees for Curling rink’s season-closing dinner and awards Friday, April 8…

Wow, is how I describe the responses to next Friday’s season-closing dinner and awards at the St. Francis Harbour Parish Hall.  I have submitted a 94-person dinner count to the Ladies Auxiliary for their roast-beef meals preparation. (Happy hour 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM with dinner at 7:00 PM.)

If there are folks who would like to join us I’ve started a cancellation list to be used should there are people who unexpectedly cannot attend and there be others who now want to attend. We are using the waiting-list approach because we are required to pay for all of the 94 dinners as ordered.

If you or someone you know now want(s) to attend please contact me with names and contact information so I can add the name(s) to the waiting list.

Cheers 🙂

Day League (2nd Half) final results are in….

Today the Day League (2nd Half) final was held with Team Long playing Team Luddington. Although Team Long jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 4 ends, Team Luddington got all that back in the 5th end with 4. By the time we got to the 7th end it was all tied up at 6 with Team Long having the hammer coming home. On his final shot Paul Long needed a rock on the four foot to win the game and he did. Great game had by all. Congrats goes out to Team Long: skip Paul Long, mate Don Armstrong, second Marg Halloran, and lead Sharmaine Shea. This was Paul’s rookie season in the Day league. He plans on curling both Day and Night year.

Day League (2nd half) Champs: Team Long with Paul Long, Marg Halloran, Sharmaine Shea, and Don Armstrong.

End of year session with the Junior curlers…

Our end of season session for Juniors was held this past Wednesday on Mar. 30th. We organized four teams of juniors with one adult per team and played a 3 end game. Then we did our weekly draw to the button with Ryan Casey winning on the boy’s side and Vanessa Dort on the girl’s side. Congrats to both. We also did our bi-weekly pizza draw from 50/50 sales by the kids. Winners this week was Ryan Sangster and I believe Vanessa Dort. Sceles Realty donated money for us to buy pizza’s for the kids and parents who came to watch plus they will be buying the kids their suppers next week at the closing banquet. Martin Marietta again donated toques and flashlights for the kids while MODG donated water bottles. Thanks to all who donated. And big thanks goes out to Ray who organizes our sessions each week, Donalda who teaches the kids, and Jim & Phil who helped out Ray each week. Here are some pics of the kids.
