Memorial Funspiel players needed: Family, friends, Juniors or want-to-be curlers…

Let’s have some curling fun on April 13 and 14 at the Chedabucto Curling Club’s Memorial Funspiel. Gather up friends and family for the 4-end games. With all the folks who have been on the curling ice this year or in the past, the 12 teams maximum should be doable.

If we can get the maximum number of teams we could start earlier on Friday, as in the late afternoon, since many of us are retirees and school is out. Such a earlier startup will enable us to have more of Friday night for music and socialization.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a team. (I know several of the Juniors are anxious to be part of teams and even enter their own team.)

Call your buddies, parents, siblings or children and get those teams registered. I can envision lots of relatives forming teams and having a family outing at the renovated curling club.

The signup sheet is on the bulletin board at the rink or contact Phil with your request to register. (More details will be forthcoming after Monday’s executive meeting.)

No Juniors Easter weekend / Memorial Funspiel / 50/50 tickets…

After a discussion with Teagan, the decision has been made to NOT have the junior curling this Easter weekend. On Saturday, April 7, the juniors will have their next and final session for this season. (I’ll have 50/50 tickets available on the 7th with the final draw being on April 14.)

On the April 13/14 weekend, we will be having our closing Memorial Funspiel with all games being 4-enders. The intention is let the curlers have their recreational matches as a great way to wind down this curling season during the times of playoffs for the Day and Night Leagues. (More details will be forthcoming after the executive have had an opportunity to share ideas for the Memorial Funspiel.)

All (adults and juniors) are welcome to curl in the Memorial Funspiel. It is our hope that we will also have curlers who are interested in the sport and would like to curl in these shorter games as food for thought for future matches.

Best wishes to all for a safe and spiritual Easter weekend.

Bronze medal winners at today’s Junior High regional tourney…..

Congratulations to Team Grady and Coach Mills for their third-place bronze win yesterday in the girls division at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Junior High Curling Bonspiel.

Girls’ and boys’ teams from Truro Junior High, South Colchester Junior High, Central Colchester Junior High, Pictou Academy, West Pictou Consolidated and Chedabucto Education Centre met for their matches at the Chedabucto Curling Club in Boylston.

Team Grady played very well and truly deserve our praise for their skills and team effort. Shown left to right: Brooklyn Jordon (lead), Hanna Manthorne (second) Vanessa Dort (third), Victoria Grady (skip) and Alicia Mills (coach). My thanks to Maurice Landry and Phil O’Regan for assisting me today at the rink and to the parents who were able to be their as spectators — a good day for all.

My thanks also to the Municipality of the District of Guysborough and AA Munro Insurance for their financial assistance towards the Chedabucto Curling Club Junior Curling Program.
