Season-closing dinner update…..

Our season-closing dinner has come together exceptionally well due to the support of many.  I am pleased to state that 84 dinners have been ordered for our April 18th, 7:00 PM dinner at the St. Francis Harbour Hall, Route 344.  (We are  grateful that the St. Francis Harbour Ladies are hosting our gathering since our rink only has a legal capacity of 67 — and that is before we would have had to move in tables and chairs.)

Our evening will be less formal that last year’s 50th anniversary celebration for Chedabucto CC, but equally as enjoyable.  Saturday — unlike all that happened at our rink during this past season — is a time for us not to be thinking of who is doing the ice; who is working the bar; who is bringing and/or preparing the food; who is overseeing the kitchen; who is in charge of cleaning, and the many other duties required for our rink-based events.

Saturday is going to be a social gathering where we can relax with good food, fellowship and deserved presentations. We will be presenting our Past Presidents Plaque to recognize and to honour those who have held the rink’s president’s position over its half-century of providing recreation and community activities for our region.  The plaque has been paid for through the generosity of Hope Wright (in memory of Earl Wright, Chedabucto CC President 1968) and Haliburton PharmaChoice/Guysborough Pharmacy (in memory of Joseph Dort, Chedabucto CC President 1977).

Eight Junior curlers will each be presented with a curling broom from Sceles Realty (4) and Turning Point Curling School (4).  Our leagues’ winning teams will also be receiving their due recognitions on Saturday evening.

The 84 to attend our gathering will include 11 Juniors, 8 past presidents, 25 guests (former members, Junior’s family members, Chedabucto CC supporters) and the balance will be our current members.

All of this will happen as we gather to enjoy a delicious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings plus mouth-watering carrot cake dessert (along with bar service).

Since we have already submitted the dinners’ numbers for the ladies to prepare for Saturday we cannot add to our list.  However, if you had wanted to attend and did not get your name on our list, notify me and I’ll put your name on a waiting list in case a seat becomes available — but please realize that is will be a waiting list and not a guaranteed dinner spot.

My advance thank you to all who are enabling Saturday’s dinner to happen and to the many who make the Chedabucto Curling Club such a worthwhile and vibrant community organization.

Cheers 🙂

Ray

Chedabucto’s Season-Closing Dinner’s initial details…

The curling season has ended and now is the time to plan the rink’s closing dinner and awards presentations.  Since we are having our celebration at the St. Francis Hall and buying their roast beef dinners for $18.00 (adult) or $12.00 (youth) we need to get the attendee count for our Saturday night (7:00 PM), April 18, dinner.  This dinner is open to Chedabucto Curling Club Community Activity Society (CAS) members, supporters and guests.  This dinner will be less formal that last year’s 50th anniversary dinner with no head table nor guest speakers — but delicious food and bar service will again be available.

The CCC 2014-2015 season’s leagues winners will be recognized as part of our closing dinner and celebration.  This year CAS is also dedicating the first-ever Chedabucto Curling Club Past Presidents plaque therefore we sincerely hope that as many our our past presidents as possible will be able to attend.

In addition, Sceles Realty and Turning Stone Curling School (Donalda Mattie) intend to award curling brooms to some of our Junior Curlers (names to be made public after the Juniors’ parents are contacted next week).  Sceles Realty has also generously agreed to pay for all Junior curlers’ dinners for those who are able to attend.

This email has been sent to Chedabucto CC supporters as well as to CCC members to provide all with this initial information. After Easter Sunday the current intention is to contact CCC members to seek their intentions regarding attending the rink’s April 18th dinner.  So as to save some calls, if you know that you will be able to attend please confirm with me ASAP because our dinner count must be given to the St’ Francis Harbour Ladies by April 11. The reverse also applies, if a member definitely cannot attend, please notify me to save that phone call. (Thank you.)

The requirement is that all dinners must be paid for in advance.  Once you contact me or someone contacts you, you can arrange the procedure via which to pay for your ordered meal(s).  If you prefer to pay by cheque, the short and bank-approved manner is to make the cheque payable to “CAS” rather than our lengthy legal name.

The main point to stress is that, once we submit our dinners count — CCC must then pay for the entire dinners count due to the reality that the Ladies have purchased and prepared our dinners request. If you order,  and do not cancel by April 10 — you must pay for your dinner(s).  If for some reason you cannot attend and become aware of that situation after April 11th, your money will still go to pay for the dinner(s).  It will be your decision to contact another to take your place or to consider your payment as a donation to the St. Francis Harbour Hall because your meal’s ingredients will have already been purchased.  This is not a fund-raising occasion for our rink thus we do not intend for this break-even dinner to be a cost back to the membership.

If more information arises, after Easter I’ll send another email.

Best regards,

Ray

Team pictures will be added after the closing banquet on April 18th.

Playoff update….

Last night in the Night League Semi-finals Team S. Brymer beat Team Cunningham and Team Dobson beat Team Hadley. So the final game has been scheduled for tonight at 7pm. Also on for tonight at 6:30pm is the Day League Semi-final game between Team Hart and Team E. Jamieson. The winner advances to the Day League Final on Thursday morning at 10am vs Team G. Jamieson.

Past presidents plaque is now paid for in total….

The kindness of others always truly impresses me. Two kind individuals have donated the necessary amount to pay for the total cost of the Chedabucto Curling Club’s Past Presidents’ plaque. At this time their names will remain in confidence until the plaque’s dedication and presentation at the April 18 season-closing dinner.

With much gratitude and best regards,

Ray
