CAS Executive 2015-2016….

At last evening’s AGM the following were nominated and approved as the Executive of the Chedabucto Curling Club Community Activity Society (CAS) for 2015-2016:

President: Ray Bates

Vice-President: Phil O’Regan

Secretary: Kay Chisholm

Treasurer: Holly Nahrebecky

Executive-At-Large: Lois MacDonald

Immediate-Past-President: Paula Dobson remains in that position

On behalf of all CAS members I want to extend my sincere thanks to those who have consented to serve on our Executive. Equally important, on behalf of all CAS members I extend my sincere gratitude to out-going Executive-At-Large Brian Farrell, who, after seven years of serving on the CAS Executive has decided to step back from his very active participation but will remain involved in the many acts of volunteerism that he performs for CAS.

The CAS By-laws allow for one more executive member to be elected; that position is Brian’s vacated position as an executive-member-at-large.

If you know of a CAS member who you would like to nominate, please confirm with that individual and then submit his/her name to Secretary Kay Chisholm to enable her to present that nomination to the CAS Executive.

Curling Banquet 2015

Our curling season officially came to an end on Saturday April 18th with our closing banquet at St. Francis Harbour Church hall. A total of approximately 85 people attended which included 11 junior members and their parents, 9 Past Presidents, curling club members and their spouses, and friend’s of the club. A big thank-you goes out the ladies and men of the St. Francis Harbour Church who prepared and served us a great meal of roast beef and all the fixings. Also thanks go out to Ray Bates, our President, for the help in organizing this and also doing the MC job for the night. Ray acknowledged everyone who had helped to make this event a success and to thank all the volunteers of the club for a great season. Championship awards were handed out, Junior curlers received curling brooms from the Turning Point School and from Sceles Realty, a 25 year award was presented to Evelyne Jamieson, and a Past Presidents plaque was introduced to the curling membership (thank you Jim Muise) with 9 Past presidents who joined us for the night. In 1963 a group of community-minded individuals had the great idea that Boylston and its surrounding region should be able to enjoy the sport of curling therefore they set about establishing a rink. To recognize the 29 individuals who have held the position of the Chedabucto Curling Club President over its 52-year history a plaque was recently purchased to display their names. That acquisition was made possible through the donations of Hope Wright, in memory of her husband Earl Wright (1967), and of Haliburton PharmaChoice / Guysborough Pharmacy (Terry Haliburton), in memory of Joseph Dort (1977). At the Past Presidents’ plaque’s presentation during the rink’s season closing dinner and awards ceremony nine of the Chedabucto Curling Club’s past presidents were in attendance. The past presidents available to receive the plaque were (front row left–right,) Angus MacIsaac (1973) and Miles MacDonald (1978). (back row, left-right) Wayne Sangster (1995), Gerry Jamieson (1987), Danny Hart (1998, 2000-2001), Shauna Brymer (1999), Donalda Mattie (2000-2003), Ralph Mattie (2004) and Blair Brymer (2005-2007) photo: Holly Nahrebecky
