Update on our competitive teams….

Team Dobson played in the Highlander Cash spiel this past weekend and placed 5th in the scheduled play which meant they were placed into the B division.  They won the pre qualifying game and then beat a New Glasgow men’s team to win the B division, which meant they placed 3rd out of 12 teams overall….and won some more cash ($350) to help cover their expenses for next weekend at the Travellers Cup (Ladies provincials in Wolfville).

Team Sangster is currently tied for 1st place at the NS Senior Provincials in Shelburne at 5-1. In fact the other teams have all lost 3 games and are eliminated. Team Sangster is tied with the defending champs from last year Team O’Leary. They are playing as I type right now with Team O’Leary in front 2-0 after 2 ends. They will play again tomorrow morning to decide who wins.

Volunteers step forward when needed…..

Employees of ExxonMobil were at the curling rink on Saturday for their private rental of our facilities.  The rental was a fund-raiser for Chedabucto CC with food, labour and time volunteered by our members.

It is truly appreciated to be able to use the word “volunteered” with many hands making today such a success.

The first person to thank is Blair Brymer, a Chedabucto CC member and ExxonMobil employee, for suggesting and arranging this day’s rental.

Without playing favourites, but starting with yesterday’s cleaning within the Club house and washrooms, thanks to Betty for helping me do what needed to be done to prepare the building for our rink’s guests.

For fear of forgetting some of the many, no names here: The desserts, rolls, and biscuits were donated by our members. The purchased turkey was cooked and carved by Mike Nicholson and his wife, Cindy Lelliott.

In the kitchen for lunch cooking hamburgers and sausages were Phil O’Regan with assistance by Chris West. On bar duty were Brian Farrell, Mary K. Connolly and Holly Nahrebecky (our bar manager).

For supper’s preparation with veggies to cook, turkey to prepare, desserts to cut and dishes to wash were Kay Chisholm, Marion Brow and Margie Halloran.

To each and all, you are what makes the curling rink the gem that it is. Thanks to all for your time, donations and energies.

The next event to prepare for is the Ladies St. Patrick’s FUNspiel on March 13/14. Don’t be surprised if you get a call to assist — unless you are one of the ladies curling. Those gals curl; the rest of us work.

Best regards and thanks again,

Ray

Winner of Chedabucto CC 50/50 February 21st is….

Congratulations to Diane Tulk, Guysborough , for being the February 21st winner of the Chedabucto Curling Club Community Activity Society’s (CAS) 50/50 draw.  Diane’s ticket was drawn from a well-shaken container by a guest at the rink and it was her name for a second win; her first being on January 17. 🙂   Diane bought her winning ticket — worth $180.00 — from Junior curler Aidan Halloran.  (Thank you to all who bought 50/50 tickets — and to those involved in their selling.)

If you wish to purchase or to sell tickets: contact a club member, come to the curling rink, or buy tickets at Cutting Loose Hair Design & Tanning, Guysborough Pharmacy, Cook’s Gas Bar & Robin’s, Hart’s Grocery Store,  Chedabucto Home Hardware, Guysborough Discount & Gifts, or at Days Gone By Bakery & Restaurant. CAS sincerely thanks the before-mentioned businesses for their continued support. (The businesses’ sold-tickets are collected on Saturdays.)

CAS randomly draws its winning 50/50 ticket on Saturdays but — with the intention to have richer prizes — will occasionally be doing the selection after some weeks of selling. Our next 50/50 draw is tentatively planned for March 14 at our Ladies St. Patrick’s FUNspiel. You can refer to the curling rink’s website for updates on draws and the names of winners. http://www.chedabuctocc.ca/5050-draw

Best regards
