Chedabucto Curling has an immediate need….

Regrettably Joe Jamieson will be unable to assist with coaching the Juniors for the upcoming curling season. Joe’s past assistance is truly appreciated.  On behalf of all members of Chedabucto CC I wish Joe a speedy recovery from his impending hip surgery.

It is vital to Chedabucto CC — and to its future — that our Juniors League remain an active part of the Club’s fabric. If you are able, or know of another, who can be contacted regarding assisting with this season’s Juniors’ coaching, please send that information to me ASAP so things can be organized for the anticipated early November start-up of this year’s curling season. (The Club’s Executive meets on Monday, October 6, with the Juniors being one of its agenda items.)

Thank you Pepperlane Manor Bed & Breakfast (Elaine & Greg Shanks)….

On behalf of the Chedabucto CC’s Juniors, I extend my sincere thanks to Pepperlane Manor Bed & Breakfast (http://pepperlane.ca/), Court Street, Guysborough, for the donation of its recyclables’ refund to the Club’s Junior’s program.

Pepperlane Manor owners Elaine and Greg Shanks generously gave all the proceeds from their returned recyclables to the Club so as to assist the Junior League’s expenses.  Elaine and Greg’s kindness is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Ray Bates, President

Thank you & duckie race winners…..

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Chedabucto CC’s chicken BBQ, duckie race, crown & anchor, and stick draws have been successfully achieved for another year. Rather than attempt to thank the many who pitched in, I’m going to let it go via today’s salutation.

Please do not interpret this message’s brevity as an indication of a lack of appreciation; quite the contrary, ALL OF YOU ARE RECOGNIZED AND TRULY APPRECIATED!  Those who donated their time, prizes, skills, sold and/or bought duckie tickets and the many who purchased chicken— you made it happen!

The 2014 duckie-race winners were as follows:

1st @ $500.00: Cathy Hart, Boylston.  The ticket was in the name of Cathy’s 20 month-old grandson, Rylan Hart, Calgary, Alberta.

2nd @ $300.00: Shauna Brymer, Boylston

3rd @ $100.00: Lisa Rafuse, Chester, NS

Best wishes to all for an enjoyable and healthy balance of our too-rapidly-passing summer.

Ray

Chicken BBQ / duckie race / stick draws / etc.

Tomorrow — Sunday — is a big day for the Chedabucto CC.

The games of chance start at 3:00 PM — with musical entertainment.

The chicken BBQ will be from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM — rain or shine. The Club has purchased 160 half chickens therefore it is more than vital — and financial required — that all be sold.  Please bring your appetite and a neighbour or two to the rink for a right-some-good feed or a to-go order.

Holly has the bar stocked so there will be a cool beverage or two for those wishing such refreshments.

Because of the generosity of so many, there is a good number of prizes for the stick draws.  BA and her team are set to look after you for that portion of tomorrow’s fund raising.

Due to the tide’s schedule the duckie race will be at approximately 8:00 PM +/- , also on Sunday.  We are going to need another 6 people to be in the the brook with me for the race to work.  There will be three dumping the ducks from laundry baskets and three with me to hold the catch for the finish line.  The first three ducks to pass through the doorway in the net will the the lucky $500, $300 or $100 critters.  Duckie tickets will be available for purchase throughout the BBQ.

Hopefully we will see many of you tomorrow at the rink.

Chedabucto CC stick draw prizes / BBQ / race schedule……

Next Friday, August 1, is the deadline for members to have all stick-draw prizes turned in for the Sunday, August 3rd’s draws. Bette Anne Corkum and her helpers will be sorting and numbering the prizes on Friday evening (August 1) at the rink. If you still have stick prizes please leave them at Marie MacMaster’s or bring them to the rink next Friday evening. As for duckie tickets, there still are tickets for sale and they also will be available at the chicken BBQ. (Kay has spare tickets. phone: 533.3323) There will be musical entertainment and games of chance at the rink’s location beginning at 3 PM on the 3rd with the Chicken BBQ going from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Since the tide is low during the early afternoon and the high tide on the 3rd is approximately 7:30 PM the duckie race will be “around” 8:00 – 8:15 PM. I was at the rink today cutting grass and “there sure ain’t much water in the brook”.  We need the tide to be going out to give us a current to carry the duck down stream to the finish line. Hope to see all at the rink on the 3rd. (See http://www.chedabuctocc.ca/duckie-race-chicken-bbq for all details re the 3rd)

Cheers, Ray
