Results from our St. Patrick’s Day Mixed Doubles bonspiel….

Our very 1st Mixed Doubles bonspiel is now in the books. We managed to draw 14 teams to the club over this past weekend (Mar. 13 and 14). Originally a one day bonspiel turned into a full 2 day bonspiel with the number of teams entered. From many who curled this weekend the response was positive. There was lots of chatter about whether we play or not but in the end we decided to go ahead with it and took measures to ensure curlers a healthy environment.

After 3 games were played by each team the top team with 3 wins and 125pts was the team of Wayne Sangster and Junior Vanessa Dort. 2nd place went to Highlander CC Junior David Nicholson and Chedabucto CC Junior Jenna Dort with 3 wins and 115pts. 3rd place at photo OP time was local member Fred Sullivan and Ruth Gunn with 2 wins and a tie for 93pts. 4th place was the team of Juniors Ryan Sangster and Victoria Grady with 2 wins and a loss for 92pts. It was noted after everyone had the left the club that a mistake was made on Ryan and Victoria’s total. Should have been 94pts. Next year we are hoping for a major sponsor to help us out with $$ and prizes and we will have a dedicated trophy for the event. Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

I would like thank all who participated, and helped out over the course of the weekend especially Team Connolly who catered the breakfast and lunch in an effort to raise money for their trip to the Canada 55+ Games in Kamloops in August. Also thanks to the four members of the Highlander CC who took part this weekend, Brian and David Nicholson, Nathaniel Smith and our Junior ladies coach Alicia Mills.

We also held our 50/50 draw and had Little Rock Junior Carly Sangster draw the winning ticket of $240 with the help of Ray Bates. Winner was Dorothy Gingras.

Team Grady results from the under 18 Provincials in Truro…

Our own Team Grady competed this past weekend Mar. 6-8 in Truro in the under 18 provincials.

The girls played against Team MacNutt from the Truro CC on Friday evening at 9pm and Team Batherson on Saturday evening at 8pm. The girls lost both games but were excited to get a chance to curl against some of the best teams in the province in a Provincial Championship, using the provincial curling stones. There was lots of curl in the ice and the girls made some fantastic shots, highlighted by an awesome double in the Friday night game, made by Hanna Manthorne. The girls have shown incredible improvement in their game this year and are looking forward to being even more competitive next year! Much thanks to the Chedabucto Curling Club and all of our sponsors for your continued support!
