Each year the Nova Scotia Curling Association (NSCA) selects from within its 33 curling rinks membership one that is recognized as its “Organization of the Year”. At the NSCA’s AGM, held at the Mayflower Curling Club, June 8, the Chedabucto Curling Club (CCC), Boylston, was again selected as the NSCA “Organization of the Year”. Due to hard work and participation of CCC members and supporters, the CCC had previously received a similar honour in 2015.
Not content to rest on its laurels since 2015, the CCC, a 100% volunteer-managed and membership-owned organization, continued to strive to make itself and its welcoming facility one of which its members, supporters and community all can be proud. In October 2018 the CCC officially opened its newly expanded and renovated club house. In May 2019 the CCC completed its siding and insulation project to enhance the temperature control within its ice shed and also to project a more pleasant curb appeal.
During the 2018-2019 curling season the CCC’s Junior Curling Program was expanded to include, for the first time since its 1963 formation, a Little Rockers divisions consisting of children within the ages 6-9 years range. The past curling season also saw the development of a competitive junior girls’ team.
In addition to adults curling via the traditional slide-method, the use of a delivery stick was promoted and utilized so as to enable those with hip or knee issues to continue to participate within the sport thereby extending the age range of the CCC’s adults into the 80 years plus category.
In order for the Chedabucto Curling Club to continue to exist since its formation in 1963 many volunteers and supporters have contributed to its many successes. Two members of the CCC executive did take possession of the Organization of the Year award on June 8 but its receipt was on behalf of all those who contributed to the Chedabucto Curling Club’s successful 2018-2019 season: CCC members (adults and children), business sponsors, newspapers’ coverages, Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Sport and Recreation and the Municipality of the District of Guysborough Recreation Department.
