Club Updates

2 levels of Junior curling programs at the Chedabucto CC to begin early January…

With much gratitude to Charla, Gary and Paul, I am extremely pleased to announce that BOTH leagues of junior curlers will commence in January. Charla Cosgrove and Gary Neufeld were at a coaching session in Baddeck last Saturday and will be overseeing the Little Rockers (ages 6 – 9 years) on Mondays after school. The Little Rockers are new to the Chedabucto CC and we are very excited about the establishment of this curling program — Spread the news.

Paul Long has agreed to be the head coach for the juniors program aged 10 years plus which will happen on Wednesdays after school. At the October Semi-AGM the dues for Juniors were set at $55.00 (HST inclusive).

We look forward to last year’s youngsters returning and also welcome others to join, regardless if they are new to the sport or former junior curlers. More information about both programs will be forthcoming after we have had the opportunities to fine tune the programs so all will be pleased with what is being offered.

Best regards,

Ray

Stick delivery workshop and NS website for stick curling…

At Saturday’s (Nov. 17th) stick-delivery workshop, Ron Crowe and Bill Spinney, Truro Curling Club — in addition to providing those in attendance with instructions for the successful use of a delivery stick versus the traditional drop-and-slide delivery method — also provided us with the link to the newly created NS Stick Curling web site.  On the following site there is information for technique as well as other information regarding stick curling. Phil will put the NS Stick Curling website on the Club’s website. https://novascotiastickcurling.ca/

When at the Chedabucto CC several years ago Ron and Bill each gave the Club a donation towards our now completed expansion/renovation.

Yesterday Ron and Bill donated $142.10 towards our 2019 goal of having the ice shed’s exterior walls insulated and covered with vinyl siding.

(Thank you Ron and Bill.)

On behalf of all Chedabucto CC members I extend my sincere gratitude to Ron and Bill for their willingness to travel to the Chedabucto CC to instruct and also for their ongoing support and promotion of using the delivery stick to extend one’s years of curling.

In addition to my thanks to the 15 curlers who attended yesterday’s workshops, I thank our VP Maurice Landry for being present with me during both sessions while he and I held the broom to assist Ron and Bill while they were instructing.

Good curling All,

Ray

Delivery stick curling workshop….

A good day today working with the Three-times Nova Scotia Stick Curling Champions in two workshops at the Chedabucto Curling Club. Attached is a group photo of the afternoon session’s curlers.

Three-times Nova Scotia Stick-Delivery Curling Champions, Bill Spinney and Ron Crowe, from the Truro Curling Club, gave two curling workshops at Boylston’s Chedabucto Curling Club about the techniques for using a delivery stick instead of the traditional drop-and-slide delivery method. As Spinney and Crowe demonstrated, there is no need to permit physical realities to prevent the enjoyment of curling.  Fifteen curlers from Chedabucto Curling Club were given stick-delivery instructions on November 17 to enable them to choose which delivery method to use to enhance their continuation of enjoyment in curling. Participating in the afternoon workshop were (left-right) Bill Spinney, Jack Leonard, Lynda MacIntosh, Ray Bates, Nancy O’Regan, Lee Leonard, Basil Mattie, Betty Bates, Phil O’Regan and Ron Crowe. NSCA Newsletter Issue 1….

Please find attached below the inaugural issue of the Nova Scotia Curling Association’s Newsletter, “Rock On”.
In the past, the NSCA president has convened regular conference calls with the club presidents throughout the curling season.  The calls were intended to be a vehicle for the imparting of news and developments from Curling Canada and NSCA, and for a sharing of news and experiences among the clubs.  The attendance and participation of club presidents in these calls have been tepid over the last several years, so we are trying this newsletter instead.  It is designed to be printed off and posted at the clubs, so that club members can be kept abreast of things, and maybe even be entertained.  As energy allows, I hope to issue about four newsletters this curling year, and of course, we are always open to chatting with you.
Thank you for your time.  Feedback, topic suggestions, good chats are always welcome.
Cheers,
Cathy Dalziel
