Grass cutter needed for small amount of mowing at curling rink…
We need a volunteer to cut the curling club’s grass. If you are willing, or can convince another to oversee the several mowings over the summer, contact me.
With the rink’s yard newly covered with gravel, the lawn is now much smaller; however, the grass that we have needs to be mowed several times per year to show that our rink is being cared for. The part needing mowing is along the brook behind the rink and along by the BBQ pit area as well as by the buildings.
Please and thank you.

Chedabucto Curling Club – DONATION MURAL…
Thank you to those who have donated to the Chedabucto Curling Club’s renovations/expansion. The positive news is that we are nearly finished with construction — but — our club needs more donations to deal with the Club’s $21,604.14 outstanding Royal Bank loan and also to pay the construction’s homestretch bills.
The entire $101,000.00 grant from the MODG has been exhausted within the approximately $210,000.00 that has been spent on our curling rink. The Club’s dues, bonspiels, 50/50, bar, BBQ and duckie race all go towards the Club’s annual $31,000 operational costs.
The donors’ board design is attached to enable you to see where your donation’s acknowledgement will be situated before it is mounted to the wall in the Club’s main entrance for all to see. I ask that you please reassess your donation decision and respond in a supportive manner to this financial plea . Cheques can be made out to CAS Renovation/Expansion and sent to our mailbox: PO Box 107, Boylston B0H 1G0. Treasurer Holly will issue receipts for all amounts received.
This past week Scott and Mike constructed the accessible ramp to the main entrance, installed the washrooms’ mirrors, installed the dehumidifier room’s flooring and are now in the process of affixing the plastic guards (donated by the Canso Curling Club) around the ice area’s sidewalks to eliminate the paint chips that continuously fall to the ice surface. The obvious-from-the-yard portion of the lounge roof will be paint-sealed once the weather warms. The donors’ board’s design has been finalized (but not paid for) with its finishing design by Waterline Graphix to be done after they have concluded their assignments regarding the Stan Fest.
I’ll be pleased to deal with your questions. Your support is definitely needed.
Sincerely,
Ray
Junior curling program expanding within Chedabucto Curling Club 2018-2019…
I am very pleased to announce that another step forward has happened to enable the junior curling program to expand within the Chedabucto Curling Club in the 2018-2019 curling season. Yesterday I met with Principal Avery, Chedabucto Education Centre / Guysborough Academy and she was very supportive to the idea of expanding our junior curling program to include youngsters (tentatively) aged 6 years to 10 years, to be known as (tentatively) Little Rockers, in the upcoming curling season.
Andrew Paris, Nova Scotia Curling Association, has confirmed that he is willing to travel to Guysborough this Fall so as to conduct introductory curling sessions within the school in conjunction with Mr. LeBlanc’s Physical Education Program for which details will be finalized and announced in September.
At this time we do not know the day(s) of curling nor do we know the coaching arrangement(s) or the dues to curl; those will be coming in the Fall.
This is an exciting time for the Chedabucto Curling Club as we near the completion of our renovations/expansion and welcome additional and year-round uses for our modernized accessible lounge (building) as demonstrated by The Guysborough Players’ performance this Sunday, May 20, and the memorial reception held for the late Gordon Pyle on April 14, 2018.
If you know of youngsters who might be interested in becoming junior curlers please inform them (their parents) of this notice and next September’s announcements of more curling details for their options to participate. (At this stage, inquiries are to be directed to me.)
Best regards to all,
Ray Bates, President, Chedabucto CC
Chedabucto Curling Club is now year-round….
The Chedabucto Curling Club’s rink is now truly a year-round community facility.
The Guysborough Players are putting on their musical comedy performance within the newly renovated lounge at the Chedabucto Curling rink. The Guysborough Players will be performing at the Days Gone By Restaurant, May 18 and 19, with an additional performance at the curling rink on Sunday, May 20 at 7:00 PM. Since the rink is a licensed facility we will be having the bar open to serve those in attendance — ages 19 years and over.
With the renovations/expansion nearly finished (Still to be done when contractor returns from vacation: access ramp, flooring in dehumidifier room. seal-paint for partial steel roof and installation of washroom’s wheelchair-user mirrors) the construction is done. 🙂 The graveling of the entire yard was completed Friday, May 11.
The efforts and support of many have made the Club’s transition from a seasonal curling facility into a community resource that is now available for use throughout the entire year. The executive, with advice from members, are finalizing the new rental rates. At this stage the rates are flexible and amounts depend on whether it is a member or non-member who is renting. Once the rates are finalized in June we will put them on the Club’s website. Please direct rental inquiries my way at 902.533.2528 or raybates@eastlink.ca .
My sincere thanks to all Chedabucto CC supporters and members.
