Ladies: Chedabucto CC needs you….

The Executive has put a great deal of time and effort into organizing the St. Patrick’s FUNspiel for the enjoyment of its participants. MacLeod Lorway Group and Guysborough Insurance have again generously agreed to sponsor our rink’s FUNspiel. Not to overlook the reality that Chedabucto CC dues only cover 1/3 of the yearly operational costs to run its facility, our rink’s bonspiels are critical to our fund-raising successes and for Chedabucto CC’s survival.

We do have FUNspiel teams starting to register but there must be more momentum to the teams’ formations. Consider playing if you have not already registered. Reach our to contact others to make up teams. Consider being a skip or a lead or whatever position that attracts you. These are only 6 enders with no pressure other than to have fun.

This is intended to be a recreational event with  laughs and socialization being vital parts of its construction.  On Tuesday the FUNspiel food will be purchased to feed its participants thus we need to know our numbers. Volunteers to work and to provide extra goodies for the ladies nutritional needs will be contacted early into next week.

Full details regarding the St. Patrick’s FUNspiel are on our web site: http://www.chedabuctocc.ca/ladies-funspiel

Please shake the trees and sign up more curlers for next Friday evening and Saturday day time.

Thank you.

Pizza recipients Junior curlers March 4….

Yesterday we had our awarding of Big G’s large pizzas to four of our Junior curlers for their successes with the selling of the rink’s 50/50 tickets.  Four certificates were awarded yesterday due to last week’s storm-caused curling cancellation.

The pizzas are being donated to Chedabucto’s Junior League by AA Munro Insurance, Antigonish.  AA Munro Insurance’s much appreciated generosity and assistance is definitely serving as an incentive to encourage the Juniors to sell their 50/50 tickets. The Juniors to receive a large pizza for selling the most tickets were Aidan Halloran and Jenna Dort.

The Juniors to receive yesterday’s second pizza via the random draw involving all the other Juniors who submitted money and tickets were Hanna Manthorne and Gianna Pellerin.  Since we are still behind due to an earlier snowstorm, next Wednesday’s Juniors’ pizza rewards will again be for four pizzas.

My advance thanks goes to the Juniors, their parents, families, neighbours and friends who assisted with the selling of the 50/50 tickets — and also to AA Munro Insurance for making our awarding of pizzas possible.

Our next 50/50 winner’s draw will be at our St. Patrick’s Ladies FUNspiel, Saturday, March 14. Best regards to all.

Help support Wayne Sangster to the podium at Canadian Seniors Men’s Curling Championship in Edmonton….

Wayne Sangster — a Chedabucto CC member — has led his Team Sangster to the honour of being the Nova Scotia Senior Men’s Champions. Team Sangster’s impressive victory has qualified them to travel to Edmonton later this month to compete in the Canadian Men’s Seniors Curling Championship: http://www.curling.ca/2015seniors/

Wayne, representing Nova Scotia, Guysborough County, Chedabucto CC and all who appreciate curling, leaves for Edmonton on March 19, 2015.  So as to represent all Nova Scotian curlers — both Senior and younger — Wayne will be faced with his personal out-of-pocket expenses of two thousand dollars ($2,000.00).

The Chedabucto Curling Club Community Activity Society (CAS) is stepping into the hack and will strive to raise funds to donate to Wayne for his Canadian championship expenses. It is not every day that we can have someone of Wayne’s calibre representing our rink and this corner of Nova Scotia therefore it is imperative for all of us to help as much as we are able.

With 100% of CAS’s executive’s approval I have been authorized to sell two awarded tickets on a double pass for a Saturday game at the Men’s World’s Curling Championship in Halifax.  The tickets will be $2.00 each or $5.00 for an arm’s length.  The total amount collected from the sale of those tickets will be donated to Wayne to assist with offsetting the costs of representing all of us at the Canadian Men’s Seniors. The tickets will be sold during the day leagues, night leagues and the Ladies St. Patrick’s FUNspiel next weekend with the lucky ticket to be selected on March 14th at the rink.

However — if you prefer to simply make a donation to Wayne’s Championship expenses, CAS will gladly accept whatever your contributions might be and ensure that that too goes to Wayne. Contact me, stop by the rink, come to my home, mail a cheque payable to CAS, hide money under a rock in my front yard but tell me where to look. Let’s get 100% behind Wayne and Team Sangster to help them get on the podium in Edmonton. Wayne leaves on March 19 so let’s make March 17 our collection conclusion so all moneys collected can be given to Wayne before he departs. Good curling Wayne and Team Sangster!

Draw to the button winners from Wednesday’s Juniors / pizzas awarded for next week’s 50/50 ticket sales…

Congratulations to Victoria Grady and CJ Carter for being yesterday’s winners of the “draw to the button”.  Theirs were the closest rocks to the pin for both the girls and boys.  A chocolate bar, courtesy of the rink, was the prize for each.  (Just in time for them to spoil their appetites for supper. 🙂 )

At next Wednesday’s Juniors we will be doing a double awarding of pizza certificates (4 certificates) for the 50/50 tickets sales due to the lost Wednesday when we were bumped  for the annual Highland Rink versus Chedabucto Seniors games.  (By the way, Chedabucto CC was the trophy winner — again — for most points accumulated over two days of play.)

The next drawing of the winning 50/50 ticket will be at the St. Patrick’s Ladies FUNspiel on March 14.

Cheers

St. Patrick’s Ladies FUNspiel update…..

March 13 & 14 will see the St. Patrick’s Ladies FUNspiel happening at Chedabucto CC’s rink. The weekend will be for the ladies to curl (to party) and the men to look after all other matters — including cooking and baking. The men will be in the kitchen, working the bar, getting their hands in the dish-washing water, cooking up a storm and just plain demonstrating that we are capable of great achievements — most times.

Point-by-point details: As of this moment we have five teams signed up to curl. We want to have 10 teams so shake the trees.  Call friends, relatives, former curlers, past Ladies Funspiel curlers, other rinks — heck, recruit your grandmother if she will curl.  🙂

The MacLeod Lorway Group / Guysborough Insurance are sponsoring this FUNspiel therefor we must get out the curlers. Friday evening’s will have entertainment by Siblings Two. The games are 6 enders.

Lunch on Saturday will be fresh-made hamburgers, and sausages, along with all the condiments for only $4.00 per burger / sausage. Dinner on Saturday, at the end of the day, is included within the registration fee of $25.00 per registered curler. Dinners, as available, for non-curlers will be $10.00. Dinner will consist of ham, scalloped potatoes, peas, chow, rolls, and desserts.

The “best-dressed” Irish (St. Patrick’s) theme lady curler, as judged by the other lady curlers, will receive a $50.00 cheque from Strait Engineering/Basil Mattie. Tickets ($2.00 per ticket or $5.00 per arm’s length) will be sold for a dinner-time draw for a pair of admission tickets to Saturday’s playoff game at the Men’s Worlds, Halifax. The weekend’s top FUNspiel team will be invited to a full dinner at the DeBarres Manor in July with Rodger Cuzner, MP. The other 32 prizes will be distributed by random draws of the ladies’ names from a container.

To support the businesses and politicians who donated the prizes, we need to have teams of curlers on the ice. Hog-line violation award to a worthy recipient — courtesy of Gordon Pyle. And — whatever else that can be dreamt up over the next 10 days. As you can detect, your executive plus “other volunteers”  are putting a great deal of time and energy into making this FUNspiel a festive event for Chedabucto CC.  The requirement is now over to you to get out the curlers to support all that is happening and all that we hope will be in Chedabucto’s future. Keep an eye on our web site for more information as it becomes available: http://www.chedabuctocc.ca/ladies-funspiel
